Helsingør – Decision made on the Road
Russell and Steven have now joined the group and after myself and Thor traversing 3 countries and 800 miles in about 2 days. The first thing they do? Complain about a 3 minute walk to the car as we had driven past them. Pah!
Due to an error programming the Sat Nav, a decision was made to use the ferry in Helsingør instead of taking the Bridge to Malmo. Now, it must be said, whenever Thor has made a mistake before it has normally turned out worse; more fuel, time and money – as with us all no doubt. BUT this time it has not only saved us over 70 miles it has also saved us time and money. We are currently headed to the ferry terminal to book a place to Helsinbørg in Sweden.
Our current aim is to get to Gothenburg by 8pm and plan the rest of the route in more detail.
Oh and buy beer, there is no way the guys are buying beer in Sweden. That’s what I’ve been told. the price is around 7 pounds for 500ml in a supermarket.
Currently the temperature is +3.4 degrees C (17:07)

Try and imagine, if you will, a number of, shall we say, persons, who have decided to take a trip. Most people would go to Florida, or Butlins, or even a Bed and Breakfast in Brighton. But our erstwhile group of travellers? No Way!!!
Nope, this lot decided to get in a draughty Land Rover and drive to the arctic circle to see the Northern Lights. Well this is what we are told, anyway. Could it be they are fleeing something or somebody? Have they managed to lose their minds overnight?
I must admit before continuing, that I am rather fond of the nice warm living room in my house. If it’s cold, I have been known to hibernate; not just for a few days, but for months! I have ridden the rapids, flown planes and had myriad other adventures, but the idea of heading into the cold, deliberately, has never even crossed my mind, let alone appealed to me!
And so they are leaving! I don’t know whether they found enough carpet to keep themselves warm as they sleep in the Land Rover overnight! I don’t know if they are aware of the nasty creatures around the arctic circle – polar bears, penguins and baked alaska.
But still, I wish them the best. May they be safe and, well not too warm, as I believe they must suffer a little for their adventurous spirits and foolhardiness!
Go get ’em guys and try to keep all your fingers and toes!
